"Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous
people" - Dr. M. L. King, Jr.
It
is with love & gratitude that Pax Christi Michigan honors
Sally Peck:
For your steadfast commitment to Gospel nonviolence and peacemaking as a
life-long member of Pax Christi, Citizens for Peace, and Plowshares Pax Christi
And for your Servant Leadership on
the PCM St. Council.
For your longtime activism with civil rights in Detroit, including the historic
Civil Rights March of June 1963 led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And for your participation in countless vigils and protests with Peace Action
and Women in Black; Williams International in Walled Lake, Wurtsmith Air Force
Base in Oscoda, School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia; OREPA in
Tennessee and Sojourners Peace Pentecost rallies in D.C.
For your persistent work to abolish the death penalty through Murder Victims
Families for Reconciliation – following the murder of your own mother.
And for your courage in being arrested on the steps of the Supreme Court in
Washington, D.C. as one of 18 protestors holding a sign proclaiming,
“STOP THE EXECUTIONS.”
For being a living example of the Peace of Christ to your children and
grandchildren – teaching them about nonviolence, care of the environment,
unconditional love and forgiveness of others.
Your fortitude, humility and gentle example in the face of serious obstacles
have inspired everyone whose life you have touched.
In light of all these prophetic works, we honor you with our Pax Christi
Michigan Purple Ribbon for Peace Award
Presented at our 30th Annual PCM State Conference at St. Mary Magdalen Church in
