It
is with great joy that Pax Christi Michigan honors Kati Garrison:
For whom the way of peace and discipleship in nonviolence has been a constant
quest – full of confidence and hope – even in the midst of struggle, mystery,
challenge and pain.
As a young college student, you gave up a full scholarship at Michigan State to
pursue a degree in Psychology and International Peace Studies at Notre Dame.
You then served as an Intern with Michigan Peace Team – to transform what you
had learned about peace and strategic nonviolent conflict – into action.
At the same time, you served on the
Pax Christi Michigan St. Council as a catalyst for the Young Adult Movement.
While a member of St. Patrick High School Youth Ministry in Brighton, you were
passionately engaged in serving the church – recruiting young adults for summer
conferences with Washington D.C.’s Young Neighbors in Action and Advocacy,
and working with The National Catholic Youth Conference.
Your collegiate cultural immersions in Australia, and your graduate studies in
International Peace Studies at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland have forever
enriched you
as a woman whose quest is to make the world a better place for all humanity.
For keeping the fire of peace and nonviolent conflict resolution alive in your
soul, we see in you, one who has the courage to speak for peace and act for
justice,
and whose integrity and example invite other young people to do the same.
And so we are pleased to present you with the Pax Christi Michigan Young Adult
Peacemaker Award, presented at the 30th Annual PCM State Conference at St. Mary
Magdalen Church in Brighton, Michigan on March 26, 2011
