Pax Christi Michigan's 30th
Annual State Conference:
Fr. Peter
Dougherty....
Building the New in the
Shell of the Old

PAX CHRISTI
MICHIGAN is
thrilled and honored to present Father C. Peter Dougherty as the keynote
speaker for our 30th Annual State Conference. Peter is a
Catholic priest with the Diocese of Lansing. He has been a full-time peacemaker
for over 35 years, as an educator, nuclear disarmament and
human rights activist, and advocate for the poor. He has been arrested and
jailed many times for civil resistance actions, most often to end the madness of
nuclear weapons. Peter is a founder and the Outreach Coordinator for Michigan
Peace Team. He is a skilled, engaging nonviolence trainer, and has been a part
of innumerable MPT violence reduction peace teams - locally, nationally, and
around the world. Peter has served on teams to Bosnia, Haiti, Chiapas Mexico,
Iraq, and regularly to Palestine/Israel and the Gaza Strip, as well as in
Michigan and around the United States.
Peter has received several awards in recognition of his peacemaking. In 1993, he
was PCM’s Purple Ribbon for Peace recipient and in 2002, he was named Pax
Christi USA’s distinguished Teacher of Peace. Last year, Peter travelled to
India where he received the Jamnalal Bajaj International
Award for “fostering Gandhian values outside India.” - a distinct and esteemed
honor.
Along with all his other gifts, Peter is an accomplished story-teller and
singer/guitarist, using the power of words and music to convey his mission of
peace. Above all else, Peter is known as a man who “walks his talk”. What an
honor for us to have him as the keynote speaker at our 30th Annual State
Conference.
